Nora, I do not understand why he has been so evasive, I know he cares, do we have a future together.
Unfortunately he has a lot of baggage when it comes to love. He does okay in relationships, until the heart is awakened and love starts fluttering around inside him. That's about when the panic alarms go off and he goes on an all systems shut down.
Seriously though hun, he loves you, and that's a big part of the problem, with his history and his issues, the intensity of the emotion he feels for you is not a plus, and actually hurts your chances of ending up together. He hasn't faced his fears of abandonment, based on a particular relationship (feels like it was a marriage, several years ago) that he was content in, until the plug was pulled unbeknownst to him. He was left holding the bag wondering what went wrong, trying to put the pieces of his life back together.
Since then the thought of being in love has been uncomfortable and difficult for him, and the emotions that have been evoked in him when he began feeling close to you, have stirred a lot of negativity within his thoughts and his heart. He is pulling away from you because he is afraid of letting you in, needing you and opening up to you, and then being hurt, being left, being dumped. That is why he is pushing you away and creating this distance.
Don't get me wrong, this can change, you could have a future together, but it is in his hands, he needs to make the right choice and he needs to face his fears, grow as a person, overcome his fear of abandonment and start following his heart and trusting himself and you. Best wishes to you.
