I am 58 now. Both my wife and I are distressed about future financial conditions. When can we buy and settle in our own house?
I can sense that money problems and stress stemming from financial obligations and the limitations those can present, have been an ongoing presence in your relationship for quite some time. I know that you as a couple long for the independence and sense of accomplishment that home ownership can offer, but there is an even bigger issue that needs to be resolved before that can be a possibility. Namely I am seeing that there needs to be more discipline and planning going into spending patterns and debt management. It is very important to take control of this and initiate change, get things moving in a more positive direction because it does impact your relationship. The stress and frustration that comes with the financial uncertainty, is reflected in your relationship, and can cause strain and communication issues, frustration and resentment at times. I would advise that while home ownership is a fine goal, it would be best to focus on the issue that is holding you back from that and causing these stresses in the first place, which is the money situation being out of control and difficult to manage.
Th good news is once you take control and stat making some changes, you will be amazed at how fast you are able to actually achieve your goals! And the change in your relationship will be positive and rewarding as well. The timing is very much in your hands as it will be determined by when and how you take action and start initiating positive changes, and taking control in your financial situation.
