Is my sister secretly resentful of me? I always get this feeling she is mad because she gets grouchy. How can I help her work this out?
Your sister has felt for a long time that she was at a disadvantage in comparison to you. I get a strong sense that she feels that you were able to accomplish a lot of what she did not achieve, like post secondary education, a stable career and marriage. She seems to feel that you benefitted from more encouragement for the family and that you were favoured over her.
I sense she is bitter and gets frustrated when good things are happening for you, or when she is reminded of something you have that she wishes she did, and that this is the anger you are picking up on. It is very toxic, as she is not looking at her life, her choices and the things she did to follow this path and bring her to this point in her life. Instead of focusing on the true source of her unhappiness, she is blaming you, which is of course not helping her overcome the issues that are holding her back. She is unhappy in her life, and she is using you as a scapegoat, a place to vent her anger.
I am picking up that there is not much you can do to get her over the frustration and bitterness, and that this is very much her issue... something that she will need to work through in her heart. I advise that you try to distance yourself from her when she is being negative and directing her anger at you. You have done nothing to deserve this treatment, it is draining and difficult for you to cope with, and I would definitely advise trying to avoid her when she is in that mood or mode of behavior.
Know in your heart that your sister loves you, but she is not emotionally healthy or clear, she needs to work some issues out before she can be a good friend and a good sister to you, and that it isn't your fault.
